My last guess - Prawns (or perhaps a similar aquatic arthropod) cooked in garlic butter? The redness being lent to the sauce and not actually being the sauce - that's the clever 'SAW VII' moment of your game.
Also strikes me as something you'd pause from talking long enough to devour 80% of....

Nope, Nope, Nope and Nope. The red isn't from tomato and the shinyness isn't from honey - it's from fat (mmmmm....faaaat) specifically butter.

It is the sauce left after I had already devoured the protein. There are only two ingredients to the sauce and one is butter.
